16A- secret sauce

1.

  • Can easily avoid conflict
  • Know how to relate to people
  • Very understanding
  • look at the bright side of all situations
  • enjoy talking to people
2.

Interview #1: What do you think makes me different?
  • You are very laid back and very difficult to make upset
This interview was with a very close friend of mine that lives one door down in our apartment building. I've known him since high school and he says I am the most laid back person he's ever met. I think that is a positive attribute because it is important to keep your composure when dealing with stressful situations.

Interview #2: What do you think makes me different?
  • You are somehow always in a good mood.
Staying positive is very important for a variety of reasons. Apart from it being beneficial for myself, I also believe that quality truly improves the people around you.

Interview #3: What do you think makes me different?
  • You know how to have a great time wherever you are.
My friend always tells me that we have the best times in the most random situations. No matter what the environment, you should always make the best of it.

3.
I chose some of my closest friends for these interviews. I spend almost all of my time with them and they know me extremely well. They know me pretty much just as well as I know myself, so they assessed me the same way I would. I do think other people who do not know me as well would assess me differently. Probably because I am not as close to them so I do not act the same way. I am more reserved and not as outgoing when I am not with my friends. I still possess the same qualities but they do not show as much. I the interviewees were accurate with their answers and I would not change anything from my initial list.

3) Reflect on the differences. How do you see yourself, and how do others see you? Are there differences in how you assess yourself compared to others? What do you think causes these differences? Do you think your interviewees are correct about you? Finally, going back to your list from part 1, would you make any corrections to the list? How?

  1. Dear Bram,
I think you did a great job on this assignment and were able to learn a lot about yourself. It was very smart to go straight to your friends because ultimately, they know the most about you. I am a very social person too so I agree that I spend a lot of times around my friends too. One of your most interesting traits was "can easily avoid conflict." I never thought of this as a trait but it is def a great one to have. Keep up the good work!

  2. Bram,

I think that all of your interviewees were spot on point with the way that you assessed yourself. You said that you always seem to see the bright side of situations where they also have said that you always have a good mood and are difficult to get upset. This idea of assessing the way that you see yourself and the way others see you is extremely important to keep in mind. You always want to make sure others see the person that you feel you are.

  3. Hi Bram,
I think the degree to which you own perception of yourself and that of your friends towards you are similar is really cool, they obviously know you very well. I like that you and they picked out being laid back and positive and avoiding conflict as qualities to point out. These seem like they would be very useful in the realm of entrepreneurship, especially given how tense something like starting and running a business can be. Entrepreneurship, like politics for me, also seems to create a lot of jaded individuals. Positivity seems like an extremely important thing to retain given these circumstances.
